Semicircle Seating Classroom Arrangement in Speaking Class at the First Semester of English Teaching Learning Program of STAIN Pamekasan

Abstract


All the students are affected by the environment or classroom. The classroom must provide an environment where the students feel happy to learn. There are three kinds of the classroom and they are called by classroom management, classroom atmosphere, and classroom arrangement. Considering the importance of classroom arrangement and the impact for the students, semicircle seating of classroom arrangement is one of the ways to make students feel comfortable and they can interact easily to the teacher. This study is intended to discover the semicircle seating classroom arrangement in speaking class, the students’ responses of implementing the semicircle seating classroom arrangement in speaking class, and how semicircle seating classroom arrangement in speaking class can help the students to be more active at the First Semester of English Teaching Learning Program of STAIN Pamekasan. This is descriptive qualitative research. There are seven speaking classes that were researched, the data were collected through observation and interview with the students, the teacher, actions of students and took documents which are related to the research. The research revealed that the teacher applied this seating was good enough to get all students engaged in one concentration. The teacher can have good control to see the process of learning, the teacher uses semicircle seating classroom arrangement as a strategy which can help the students more active for speaking.
